Art Therapy for Teens
& Adolescents in Sydney

Your teenager doesn't have to find the words. In art therapy, the image speaks for them — without judgment, without pressure, without the expectation of performance. In-person in Sydney and online across Australia and globally.

For Young People

Why Creative Therapy
Reaches Young People

Adolescence is one of the great journeys of human life — and one of the most demanding. Teenagers are navigating questions of identity, belonging, independence and meaning, all at once, while carrying the weight of academic pressure, social complexity and a world that can feel overwhelming.

For many young people, being asked directly how they feel can itself become a barrier. The creative process removes that barrier entirely. When the hands are busy making, the emotional world often opens of its own accord — more safely and more honestly than words alone can allow.

Art therapy works with the whole young person — not just their behaviours or presenting concerns, but the depth of who they are and who they are becoming. It helps to forge new neural pathways, build self-awareness and develop the inner resources that will carry them through life.

Your teenager comes — curious or reluctant. They pick up a brush. Something begins to move.

Something Shifts

Over weeks, small changes — more words at dinner, less shutdown, a quality of settled-ness not seen before.

They're Growing

Your teenager has tools and language that belong entirely to them. The growth continues long after sessions end.

For Parents

What Parents Need to Know

Before your teenager's first session, I offer a complimentary parent or guardian consultation — a chance to share what you've noticed, ask any questions and feel settled about the process.

Sessions are confidential. Your teenager's privacy is fully respected, and I will only share concerns with you if there is a genuine safety reason. This confidentiality is not incidental — it is what makes it possible for the work to go where it needs to go.

Sessions run for 50–60 minutes. All art materials are provided. No artistic experience needed. Available in person in Sydney and online via Zoom — Australia and globally.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your Questions Answered

Art therapy tends to be a particularly good fit for teenagers who struggle to express their inner world verbally, who have found talking-based approaches difficult to engage with, or who have a natural connection to creativity. It's also a good starting point for teens resistant to therapy — the creative focus changes the feeling of the room entirely.
Not at all. Art therapy is not an art class and there is no right or wrong way to engage with the materials. The focus is entirely on the creative process as a doorway to expression and self-discovery — not on the finished product.
Sessions are confidential. I will not share the content of your teenager's sessions with parents except in cases where there is a genuine safety concern. This confidentiality is essential to building the trust that makes the work possible.
Yes. Online sessions via Zoom work very well for teenagers — particularly those who feel more at ease at home. The quality and depth of the work is fully available online.
This varies depending on your teenager's needs. Some young people find 8–12 sessions deeply transformative; others continue longer. We review this regularly and always with your teenager's own sense of what feels right.
